One of the main attractions of the Lake District are the fells popularized by Alfred Wainwright in his seven volume collection of walks to all 214 Lakeland summits. If you are really looking to stretch yourself then perhaps the Bob Graham Round is for you. This is a 72 mile run taking in 42 of the highest peaks in 24 hours. Others come for the climbing and bouldering - with the dramatic scenery adding to the appeal. Outdoor activities are not limited to the fells - you can take to the water and enjoy sailing or windsurfing on Derwentwater. Alternatively, you can take on the challenge of mountain biking across some of England's most rugged terrain.
The Lake District is an all-year round holiday destination full of attractions and activities to suit all ages. Visitors can enjoy a walk through the stunning gardens at Leven’s Hall or Muncaster Castle, travel on the La’al Ratty miniature railway, visit Keswick’s famous Pencil Museum, enjoy a visit to The World of Beatrix Potter or sit back and enjoy the scenery whilst sailing on an Ullswater Steamer.
