space to breathe

Whilst staying in one of our Lake District cottages you might like to participate in the wide variety of activities that are available to you.

This month (19th - 23rd May 2010) Keswick hosts its annual Mountain Festival. This 5-day event has been growing in popularity and scope since its inception. The speaker program this year includes Andy Cave, Leo Houlding, Andy Kirkpatrick and Sir Ranulp Fiennes. Activities include Triathlons, Wild Swim and 'Splash & Dash' - a 400m swim in the lake and then a dash around Crow Park. You can get more information on all the events at www.keswickmountainfestival.co.uk

On The Lake

Yes, The Lake District only has one truly named lake, namely Bassenthwaite Lake, the remainder being either tarns, waters or meres.

However, you will still be able to enjoy a variety of water sports and activities. The larger ‘lakes’ (Ullswater, Windermere and Derwent Water) have regular boat services and where self-drive motor boats and rowing boats may also be hired.

Canoe, dinghies, windsurfers and rowing boats can be launched from various national Trust and public launch sites.

Please take care when bathing and paddling as the water depth can suddenly increase and the temperature drop.
