Bassenthwaite Scarecrow Festival

Bassenthwaite Scarecrow Festival (21 – 22 June, 2008)

This weekend saw the Bassenthwaite Scarecrow Festival (21 – 22 June, 2008) take place in the village of Bassenthwaite just to the north of Keswick. Bassenthwaite is a typical Lake District village with many quaint cottages. The festival is set in and around the village, with the focus of activities and entertainment on the village green. Whilst it was a record turn-out for the scarecrows, the visitor numbers were low due to the typical Lakeland weather of heavy showers and strong winds throughout the week-end. However, many people still turned out and a great time was had by all. Below are a few of our favourite scarecrows.

I like the spider man and the owl and the pussycat ones the best! Although the man in the hedge was particularly amusing. Thanks for posting the photos, for those of us not brave enough to weather the weather!
