The Lake District

The Lake District and its national park are one of the most visited areas of the United Kingdom. Nestled nicely in to the county of Cumbria, the Lake District is one of the northernmost parts of England, close to Scotland.


Being northern the Lake District is extremely hilly, boasting several famous peaks, the highest being Scafell Pike. One of the Lake District’s many attractors are mountain climbers and ramblers, looking to scale the amazing natural landscape.


Still the Lake District is not to be confused with the Peak District. The main attraction of the Lake District is un-ironically its lakes. There are over 20 major lakes in the area, not mentioning the many smaller ones all offering their own activities. Many water sports take place including canoeing, sailing and white water rafting on the more volatile stretches of water.


As well as climbers and water sport fanatics, the Lake District also attracts hundreds of animal and nature lovers every year due to its unique wildlife. There are certain species that are completely unique to the Lake District and not found anywhere else in the UK. These include the red squirrel and the only pair of nesting Golden Eagles. The lakes themselves also house lots of rare and endangered species of fish.
